Teaching and Learning Committee

Terms of Reference

The Teaching and Learning Committee is the central Faculty forum responsible for the development of policy and evaluation designed to improve teaching and learning in the Faculty. The Teaching and Learning Committee acts as an advisory committee to the BA Course Standing Committee and the Graduate Studies Committee. Policy and discussion papers are taken to Faculty Board.

The Teaching and Learning Committee is responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating the new generation BA and coursework Masters programs with special emphasis on curriculum design and innovative pedagogy, including online learning. It is also responsible for facilitating the implementation of such programs within Schools. It will also ensure compliance with University policy on relevant areas.

The Teaching and Learning Committee develops proposals for integrating foundation skills and transition components into first year, working in close collaboration with subject coordinators. The Committee also develops ways of integrating capstones and knowledge transfer imperatives into the syllabus, and for furthering options for large and small group teaching.

The Teaching and Learning Committee will develop strategies to stimulate debate at School level on key teaching and learning issues. It acts as the coordinating committee for teaching and learning goals and projects within the Faculty and for the development of grant applications, and will oversee a small budget to support seeding grants for teaching and learning initiatives that have potential for wide application with the Faculty of Arts.

Membership

The Teaching and Learning Committee will be chaired by the Associate Dean Curriculum and Teaching, and will coopt additional members representing all Schools, undergraduate and postgraduate areas, academic and professional staff and people with special expertise in areas such as online learning and knowledge transfer.
