Introduction
Arabic studies is one of six programs that constitute the Asia Institute. The Institute was established in 1998 to strengthen the University's role as a major international centre for teaching and research in Asian languages and societies and provides postgraduate students with a stimulating environment for the study of Arabic.
Postgraduate students who specialise in Arabic studies will develop transferable skills and substantially enhance their career options. Arabic is spoken by more than 200 million people around the world. Increasing trade and diplomatic exchanges between Australia and the Arabic-speaking world make this an important area of study for those seeking careers that build on a knowledge of Arabic language and culture. Students are able to expand on their interest and knowledge in this area through an articulated structure of higher degree study at Melbourne.
