2009 Application Information
Duration:
Bachelors degree graduates: 1.5 to 2 years full-time or up to 4 years part-time.
Arts Honours and postgraduate diploma graduates in the discipline: 1 year full-time or up to 2 years part-time.
Entry:
First semester (March) and second semester (July)
Minimum entry requirements*
For the 2 years, 200 point program*:
Usually, completion of a bachelors degree in the relevant area(s) of study (or equivalent), with a grade average across the major of at least H2B (70%) or H2A (75%), OR
Usually, completion of a graduate diploma in the relevant area of study with a H2B (70%) or H2A (75%) average. Some programs allow entry with Graduate Certificate or 50 points of study in the area at undergraduate level.
For the 1.5 years, 150 point program*
Usually, completion of a bachelors degree in the relevant area(s) of study (or equivalent), with a grade average across the major of at least H2B (70%) or H2A (75%), and at least one year's full time, documented, relevant work experience or training, OR
Usually, completion of any bachelors degree and a graduate diploma or graduate certificate in the relevant area of study with a H2B (70%) or H2A (75%) average and at least one year's full time, documented, relevant work experience or training.
For the 1 year, 100 point program
Usually, completion of a four year honours degree, or equivalent, with a thesis component in the relevant area and a grade average equivalent to an H2B (70%) or H2A (75%) at the University of Melbourne over the major, OR
Usually, an undergraduate degree in a cognate discipline with a grade average of at least H2B (70%) in the relevant subjects and at least two years of full time documented relevant work experience, or equivalent.
Exemption for relevant professional work experience
Bachelor graduates with relevant professional work experience or training may be exempted from the first 50 points, depending on the nature and extent of their experience.

Course structure
The usual course structure is as follows:
- Year 1: Eight subjects (8x12.5 points) of specified Honours level study or approved equivalent.
- Year 2 (in coursework only programs): Eight subjects (8x12.5 points) including any recommend compulsory subjects, OR
- Year 2 (in coursework and minor thesis programs): Five coursework subjects (5x12.5 points), including any recommend compulsory subjects, and a thesis of 12,000 words (37.5 points). Some programs are structured around a 10,000 word (25 point) thesis and 75 points of coursework, or a 15,000 word (50 point) thesis and 50 points of coursework.
