Graduate research programs available
Our graduate research programs offer you the opportunity to specialise and explore critical thinking in a particular Arts discipline.
Research student facilities and support
The Arts Research and Postgraduate Studies Unit provides an inviting and supportive working environment for our students and staff.
Key support services for research students include:
- hosting an annual one-day welcome and induction for all commencing research students
- administering a number of prizes and scholarships
- provision of financial assistance to participate at national or international conferences and/or undertake archival research interstate or overseas
- provision of financial assistance for PhD candidates to undertake fieldwork
- provision of the Faculty’s Research Student Support Scheme offering advice and support for the various aspects of your candidature, from thesis writing to preparing your work for publication
- study space for those in the final stages of their thesis preparation
- an annual one-day interdisciplinary research student colloquium, enabling you to present your research for review by fellow students and academic staff
Research degrees and supervision
Arts offers Masters by Research and PhD degrees in more than 50 areas of study across the humanities, social sciences and languages. More than 200 Arts academic research staff currently supervise graduate research students.
Finding a supervisor and research proposals
To assist you in researching potential supervisors, the University’s Find an Expert website lists the contact details and research areas and enables you to search by topic, name, faculty, school or centre.
In applying for a research degree you are also required to submit a research proposal, a one or two page outline of your proposed research project.
