Study Abroad and Exchange in the Faculty of Arts

The Study Abroad and Exchange program enables University students enrolled in overseas institutions to study at the University of Melbourne for one or two semesters. The Faculty of Arts is host to the majority of Study Abroad and Exchange students entering the University each semester and welcomes applications across all disciplines. Students have the opportunity to build upon current studies by selecting subjects that complement their major, or by exploring challenging and unique subjects that are not offered at their home institution.

The Faculty of Arts at the University of Melbourne remains at the forefront of teaching and research in the humanities, social sciences, languages and media and communications, both in Australia and internationally. Over 500 subjects in more than 40 individual study areas are available, including internships and fieldwork options. European and Asian languages are taught from beginners to advanced levels. The Medical Humanities program provides options for pre-med study abroad students, while Australian Studies subjects offer you the opportunity to engage directly with the Australian environment and community, to learn more about Australia and Australians and to gain new perspectives on your own and other cultures.

Although the Study Abroad program is tailored primarily to undergraduate (Bachelor degree) students, you may study at postgraduate (Masters or PhD) level if you are enrolled at an equivalent level at your home institution. The Faculty will help you to design a one or two semester research project in one of our schools, or arrange your enrolment in postgraduate coursework subjects.
