Details
The Alma Hansen Scholarship is open to graduates of the University of Melbourne pursuing graduate studies in the University and will be awarded for the purpose of assisting the recipient to travel in Australia or overseas to pursue studies related to his or her major interest.
Information for Applicants
The value of any scholarship awarded shall be determined after considering the successful applicant's proposed program of study, access to other financial resources and estimate of travel and living expenses. The Selection Committee will consider applications for the principal scholarship and for smaller additional grants. Any income surplus to providing the Alma Hansen Scholarship may be used to provide loans and travelling scholarships.
Eligibility
The Scholarship is open to:
- Graduates of the University of Melbourne
- Students who are currently enrolled or intend to enrol, in a postgraduate program at the University of Melbourne.
- Graduates of the University of Melbourne who wish to pursue their study and research which is relevant to their graduate studies at an overseas venue. The venue is to be approved for these purposes by the Council on the recommendation of the dean of the faculty of Arts
Please also note that:
- The Scholarship will be available initially from 12 months to the successful applicant from the date awarded, but this date may be renewed on the recommendation of the dean for a further period but must not exceeding an additional 12 months.
- Preference will be given to candidates from the Faculty of Arts.
- Applicant's financial situation will be taken into account in the selection process.

Applicants need to submit their application electronically and include the following:
- Postgraduate Scholarships/Prizes Application Cover Sheet
- Scholarship Budget Cover Sheet
- state if they are a full or part time students
- Academic Record to date (must show evidence that they are graduates of University of Melbourne)
- Proposed course of study
- Estimate of travel and living expenses (see Budget above)
- Two academic referees reports
- Any other information which may assist the Committee in making its decision
- Evidence of other financial resources available to the applicant. Applicant's financial need will be considered, i.e. access to other financial sources (APA, TRIPS, MATS/PORES, Department).
Note: Part-Time Students: The University is required to withhold tax from scholarship payments.
