Details

The late Jessie Stobo Watson Webb, senior lecturer in the school of History, created a fund to enable the University 'to send a student to spend a season in Greece under the direction of the British School of Archaeology at Athens or any other similar school'.

The Jessie Webb Scholarship is open to students enrolled in a postgraduate course at the University of Melbourne in Ancient History or Classical Studies, School of Historical Studies. The award is determined from time to time by Council.

 

Information for Applicants

Those interested should be aware that the conditions of award of the Scholarship stipulate that the successful applicant will be required to spend a season (3-6 months) in Greece under the direction of the British School of Archaeology at Athens or any other similar school in Greece. The Professor of Classical Studies, and a professor of History, will consider applications for the Scholarship and make their recommendation for award to the Dean of the Faculty of Arts. Applicants need to be aware the prize is paid in two installments the second one is paid after the successful applicants submits a progress report half way during their stay.

 

Eligibility

The Scholarship is open to students enrolled in a postgraduate course undertaking research in Ancient History or Classical Studies.

Note: Part-time students should note that the University is required to withhold tax from scholarship payments.
