Scholarships, Prizes and Awards for Research Students

Scholarships for Research Students

Faculty of Arts funding and the generosity of private benefactors provide annual scholarships, bursaries, prizes and awards, including research and travel grants for higher degree students. A range of general scholarships available to most postgraduate students are detailed below, however many scholarships are specific to particular areas of study.

Note: Payment of a scholarship, studentship, bursary or an educational allowance is exempt from income tax when you are enrolled full-time and the scholarship is principally for educational purposes.

If you are eligible to hold a part-time scholarship, you must submit a tax declaration form (part-time scholarships are not tax-exempt).

Faculty-funded Melbourne Research Scholarships (MRS/MIRS) and Melbourne International Fee Remission Scholarships (MIFRS)

Each year, the Faculty of Arts is allocated a limited number of Melbourne Research Scholarships (MRS/MIRS) and Melbourne International Fee Remission Scholarships (MIFRS). The Faculty's Scholarship Committee, chaired by the Associate Dean (Research), meets in December of each year and considers department nominations for the award of these scholarships.
