Terms of reference
The Committee is chaired by the Associate Dean (Graduate Studies), and has senior representation from all Schools. Its overall brief is to:- Act as a conduit for the interchange of information between the University/Faculty and the Schools regarding postgraduate coursework programs;
- Provide advice to the Associate Dean (Graduate Studies) on policy and pedagogical directions for the development of the Faculty’s postgraduate coursework programs, in response to Faculty and University strategic goals;
- Provide advice to the Associate Dean (Graduate Studies) on the development of flexible and innovative course delivery methods, in response to the Faculty and University Strategic goals;
- Provide advice to the Associate Dean (Graduate Studies) on potential areas for graduate program collaboration among Schools;
- Shepherd proposals for major course changes, including the establishment of new graduate programs;
- Determine entry requirements for graduate programs;
- Implement and monitor policies relating to postgraduate coursework programs;
- Advise and develop policy on the development of links between the faculty’s graduate programs and employers and external organisations, and on the on-going internationalisation of curriculum.
During 2008, the Graduate Studies Committee will be play an important role in the development of Faculty strategies for the establishment of a new Graduate School in the Arts Faculty, as well as the establishment of new generic ‘plus two’ program(s).
The Committee has responsibility and delegated decision-making powers in regard to the Graduate Schools and programs, and the Committee will regularly review and recommend alterations to existing guidelines or the establishment of new programs and will report these to Faculty Executive and Faculty Board.
